I was amused when reading Siti Kasim’s (and earlier Mariam Mokhtar’s) outburst at Danial Ariff Shaari’s article which appeared in one media portal (http://www.tanjak.my/when-will-these-broken-gramaphones-be…/) and later re-published by ismaweb (http://www.ismaweb.net/…/02/isma-public-enemy-no-1-liberals/).
The readers are encouraged to read the above article and the following related post by Danial (http://www.ismaweb.net/…/liberals-calling-us-fascistic-isl…/) to understand the background of the story.
At first I did not consider it meaningful to respond to Siti Kasim’s (and her comrades’) agitated vitriol against Danial’s thought provoking article, but just out of curiosity, I did a casual Google search on the phrase “name calling”. What I found out is interesting:
According to Wikipedia, “Name calling is abusive or insulting language referring to a person or group, a verbal abuse. This phenomenon is studied by a variety of academic disciplines from anthropology, to child psychology, to politics. It is also studied by rhetoricians, and a variety of other disciplines that study propaganda techniques and their causes and effects. The technique is most frequently employed within political discourse and school systems, in an attempt to negatively impact their opponent.”
“Name calling is a cognitive bias and a technique to promote propaganda. Propagandists use the name-calling technique to incite fears or arouse positive prejudices with the intent that invoked fear (based on fear mongering tactics) or trust will encourage those that read, see or hear propaganda to construct a negative opinion, in respect to the former, or a positive opinion, with respect to the latter, about a person, group, or set of beliefs or ideas that the propagandist would wish the recipients to believe. The method is intended to provoke conclusions and actions about a matter apart from an impartial examinations of the facts of the matter.”
Thus Name calling simply means “Use of profane, derogatory or dehumanizing terminology to describe another individual or group.”
“When a person resorts to name-calling, they have in that moment abandoned logic in favor of an exaggerated expression of their feelings. There is little to be gained by confronting them with any form of reasoned argument about what the facts are or if the name is warranted.”
Another interesting point which I discovered relates to a study by one board-certified clinical psychologist who wrote a book wherein he diagnosed the ideology of the left as a tangible mental illness, a more cleverly disguised form of illness already widely studied since the late ‘60s – Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).
The Mayo Clinic defines NPD as “a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration.”
Further: “In order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better.”
The readers are also kindly suggested to read the following interesting article to understand more about the mindset of the liberals:http://tayloredthoughts.com/understanding-liberal-mania-ps…/
Siti and the rest of her like-minded comrades are wrong if they consider ISMA will be cowered or tremble with fear at the onslaught of liberal ideas and the barrage of online attacks directed at its activists or personalities. While ISMA members do not take them personally at the mudslinging, belittlement, malignation and ad hominem attacks, there are instances where a firm stand has to be taken where the position of Islam is at stake.
Such incessant derogatory attempts to undermine or villify Islam or its fundamental core will always be met with a unified defence from the Muslim ummah, in Malaysia or elsewhere for that matter.
The liberal mindset is very diametrically opposed to the idea of supremacy of Islam. Where the inherently faulty and limited human mind tries to dictate the values and system of life deemed for Muslims over and above what the Quran and Sunnah dictates or prescribed, the Muslims will not let it enter the households of the ummah without a strong, unified and selfless resistance.
By the grace of Allah, ISMA is here to stay, even though Siti, Farouk, Zurairi, Mariam and other like-minded individuals hope or pray otherwise.
Congratulations Danial, Zaid Zainur Rashid and other non-ISMA writers, bloggers and online activists … you have done an excellent job.
To the leftist Liberals, we say: Right-minded Muslims DO NOT support you!
