4 months after she told us her story…

Ana says she is not (yet) a muslim. When I talked to her, I realised that she has the ‘gambaru’ attitude that we see in most Japanese- the will to strive for perfection in everything they do. Everything must be done to the best of their ability. For Ana, she wants to make sure that she can perfectly commit to Islam’s rules, before she converts. Insha’Allah, she will.

Ana says, “If I convert to Islam, I don’t want to be lazy about anything for Islam. I want to wear hijab to work, I want to fast, I want to avoid eating pork. But now it’s hard because we have always been taught since young that we must “always eat lunch with a smile and be in a good mood when eating with friends and teachers”

FIRST

Ana has some questions about Islam…

1. Ana’s never felt God’s existence and doesn’t know how to believe in God.. But she also has the feeling that God is still around.

2. Ana also wonders why do muslims wipe their faces after dua?

SECOND

Why I’ve not converted to Islam yet…

I’m really worried~

I’ve not told my family that I want to convert to Islam someday, and my relatives are all having misunderstandings on Islam, so I’ve got to tell them too!

I’m also working at a public childcare from this April. I’ve never seen a muslimah who’s working at a public childcare place. If I convert to Islam, I don’t want to be lazy about anything for Islam. I want to wear hijab to work, I want to fast, I want to avoid eating pork. But now it’s hard because we have always been taught since young that we must “always eat lunch with a smile and be in a good mood when eating with friends and teachers”.

I just want people to know muslims aren’t terrorists. Lots of people trust media too much… ISIS also makes them confused and afraid of Islam …

I really, really want everyone to know that Islam means peace.

If I convert to Islam, after that, I want to tell about Islam to people who don’t know well about Islam. How great islam is, too.
So now, I think I have to study Islam harder!

THIRD

My Malaysian friends changed my thoughts about Islam

When I was younger, I thought muslims were terrorists and I was afraid of muslims because the women always wore hijab/niqab and long-black clothes, and I could only see their eyes or faces.

4 years ago, I took part in a Japan x Malaysia interaction project in high school, and I made a lot of Malaysian muslim friends. They told me a lot about the teachings of Islam kindly. For example, muslim women wear hijab and long clothes to protect themselves. I soon realised that the hijab is really beautiful so i’m became not afraid at all.

When I misunderstood about Islam and asked my Malaysian muslim friend, “Muslims are terrorists, right?”
Do you think he got mad?

No. He didn’t get mad, and told me kindly about the real Islam , how Islam is beautiful. Then I was embarrassed and I realized too that I was misunderstanding my friends too…

FOURTH

I think I had a chance to believe in Allah since I was teenager, for 3 reasons. let me tell you why.

1. I don’t like to drink alcohol. When i drink it, I will always get a headache. And now, i avoid eating pork too! *practice practice!

2. I have never liked wearing tight clothes or pants in public. I don’t know why but when I imagine wearing like that in public, I get a feeling… I can’t explain this feeling… but it made me not want to wear.

After I got interested in Islam, I realised that, “Oh, I always get this feeling because God is trying to protect me from something bad.”

So, whenever I wear hijab outside the house, I cover my aurat perfectly.

For example, cover breasts perfectly, cover my foots perfectly… even it’s hot or not, I always wear long socks n sneaker… and I never wear pants when I wear hijab! (Editor: she wears long skirts).

3. My name is Ana.

I heard in arabic, “ana” means “me”… “ana ana” 1st and 3rd reasons sound small but i’m glad it has gotten me interested in Islam!

Editor’s note (2)

After 4 months since she told us her story, Ana has reverted to Islam on 21 March 2016. Allahu Akbar! May Allah continue to make it easy for her in her learning and striving to be a better muslim in her journey ahead, insha’Allah. Ameen!

  1. Alhamdulillah. Praise be to Allah.

Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.Al-Qasas 28:56

  2. IZRAH BIN ISMAIL

    alhamdulillahh….the right step miss ana,
cuba kaji, jgn kaji yg jauh2, kaji tentang diri kita sendiri,
dari hujung rambut sampai hujung kaki,
    kita akan nampak kebesaran ALLAH……………

  3. Ana, as long as you learn the knowledge and follow Al-Quran and Al-Hadith Insha Allah you will never be stray and lost, find a teacher that teach people by following Al-Quran and Al-Hadis. Prophet Muhammad S.A.W said in one of his hadith, If anyone follow and learn Al-Quran and Al-Hadith, that person will not be lost forever. stay strong and don’t give up.

  4. Alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah.

Reading about Ana, I have no doubt that she has a very strong will and spirit.

Maybe one day when I bring my family to visit Japan, we can visit Ana just to say Hi! Insya Allah. My children have started learning Japanese, but Allah alone knows when we can make it there.

I wonder how I can get in touch with Ana.

  5. khairul.lutfi891222

yup, Just to make sure, you really have to learn and follow Al-Quran and Al-Hadith, there are teacher that will teach people by following these two ( Al-Quran and Al-Hadith ) this is really important because every people that admitted they are muslim must follow and learn these two knowledge of Al-Quran and Al-Hadith. these two cannot be separated and if you follow only one, you will be stray and lost and then your prayer would be meaningless. Al-Hadith contained everything prophet Muhammad S.A.W. did, said, acted. In prayer we have to follow the right way the prophet teached us through Al-Hadith. By following these two ( Al-Quran and Al-Hadith ) Insha Allah we will be one of ahlus sunnah wal jamaah which the only one out of 73 section of islam that will go to heaven.. the other 72 section of islam were lost and stray and they will be thrown to hell because they did not follow both Al-Quran and Al-Hadith..

  6. Congradulations Ana, welcome to the most beautiful, understandable and natural religion. We pray to Allah (God) that you be granted peace, strength and happiness both in this world and the hereafter be whatever trials come your way.

  7. A non Muslim converts to becoming a Muslim and it becomes a great story. Can she revert to becoming a non Muslim after that? Nope. no way. This religion is only a ONE WAY traffic. Once you are Islamised, you live, breathe, eat, drint and even poop everything Islamic. Can’t change religion in IC as well. Freedom and Peace. Really? it’s Condemnation. It’s this way, or no way at all.
Good luck Ana. May Peace be Upon You.

  8. Assalamualaikum Ana, Subhanallah, Barakallah.

Ana – When I read about your quest to achieve perfection, I just want you to remember that Islam is never about achieving perfection. Why ? because by design, we are not perfect. Had Allah wants us to be perfect, He would create us as angels.

Syaitan loves to plant this idea of perfection because when we slipped, he came and whispered, “see I told you that you are not good enough”. Syaitan wants you to despair and then leave it all. That is always his strategy. Understand this strategy of syaitan in order not to despair because islam is a religion of no despair.

Hijab, Solat, Fast etc are all our struggles in this world to be in the right path to jannah. Yes, sometimes we slipped, but it does not mean that we should stop struggling to be in the right path. The thing about hijab among youths is sometimes you wear hijab, and then you do something bad, and then there will be other sisters who do not fully understand the religion, they took the role of syaitan and said “might as well do not wear hijab if she acts like that”. No ! Hijab is a struggle, its not a sign that you have achieved the status of an angel. The beauty of islam is it rewards you for your struggle, and Allah swt is most forgiving. He created us, He knows our strength and weaknesses. He knows if you have struggled hard enough so never lose faith in Him. I pray for you to be istiqamah on this path.

  9. annabelle,

Do Christianity and the church respect religious freedom?

Let the Bible itself answers this question:

    Deuteronomy
    Chapter 13
    KJV

1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. 5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: 9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. 10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

12 If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying, 13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; 14 Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you; 15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. 16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again. 17 And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers; 18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

Then you may claim that the Old Testament laws do not apply to us because Jesus was the “lamb” to clear away its rules and regulations.
However, the Old Testament laws should indeed be adhered to, for the New Testament demands it!

    Evidence:

Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets:

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

  10. Sadly we currently see the efforts of the Christian missionary activity focused primarily on derailing Islam now more than any other period in history.

It seems to me that some non-Muslim bigots such as ‘Jamal’ are deliberately using Muslim names to attack, insult, defame, degrade, demonize Islam. By using Muslim names to attack, insult, degrade, demonize and defame Islam, the non-Muslim bigots are the shameless born cowards who have no guts to debate with Muslim scholars of Islam.

‘Jamal’ has deliberately insulted, defamed and demonized the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) in his comment above. (
Jamal – December 9, 2016 at 7:28 pm). The so-called ‘Jamal’ has exposed his own ignorance, bigotry and stupidity by writing the slanderous comment.

    The undeniable facts are :

Puberty is the process of physical changes through which a child’s body matures into an adult body capable of sexual reproduction. Girls begin puberty around ages 8-13 years old depending on genetics, race and environment.

Christian missionaries are falsely accusing the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) of committing “child molestation” but this nonsensical and ridiculous accusation contradicts the basic fact that a girl becomes a woman when she begins her menstruation cycle.

In ancient and medieval societies, it was common for girls to be betrothed at or even before puberty. There Were No Objections to the Marriage of the Prophet(sallallahu Alayhi wasallam) to Aishah (radiAllahu Anha) during ancient times. Therefore, the people living in the 21st century has no rights to question the ancient practice. After all, their ancestors including Jamal’s own used to be betrothed at or even before puberty.

Hey ‘Jamal’ (whoever or whatever you are), you are insulting your own
mind by denying the practice of ancient people that was practised worldwide during ancient times.

According to Christian sources, Mary gave birth to her son when she was about thirteen or fourteen years of age.

According to Christian sources, Mary gave birth to her son when she was about thirteen or fourteen years of age.

    (1) Would ‘Jamal’ accuse God of committing “child molestation”? Would ‘Jamal’ call God a paedophile?

    (2) Would ‘Jamal’ condemn God for causing Mary to give birth to her son when she was about 13 or 14 years old instead of 21?

    (3) How old were Mary and Joseph when Joseph betrothed to Mary? Would ‘Jamal’ reject the betrothal since Joseph and Mary were an old man AND a child respectively?

Why do churches have many paedophiles who are freely preying on children in the 20th and 21st centuries? They should focus on the paedophile in their own churches instead of defaming and insulting the Prophet Muhammad?

Sex abuse spans spectrum of churches
By Mark Clayton, Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor April 5, 2002

Despite headlines focusing on the priest pedophile problem in the Roman Catholic Church, most American churches being hit with child sexual-abuse allegations are Protestant, and most of the alleged abusers are not clergy or staff, but church volunteers.
